This is the first single to be released by Properly Basic. It debuted on the compilation CD Midnight on Friday, the campus album for George Fox Univeristy, in April 2002. Only recorded in 4 ½ hours, a new version should be coming in the next couple months along with three or four more songs by the end of summer 2002. In many ways, this song is just a basic acoustic rock tune, but the dynamic changes and mood make it unique in its own way. Enjoy! |

Story Behind the Song
This song was written in the fall of 2000, the freshman year of John Meindersee II, Properly Basic's lead singer, songwriter, and guitar player. It's about what was going on in his life then. Usually, a newer song would be picked first to record, but this was the first song that John had written since he was a freshman in high school so it had special significance to him.
Lyrics
I've thought long and hard
And I've decided that you seem so very far
Life seems so lonely now
I need to find someone that can bring me back somehow
It's cold and rainy here
I think the weather is manifesting my fear
I called her on the phone
Her answering machine picked up she wasn't home
Can you hear me cryin'
Can you feel my fears
It hurts to feel my heart ache
Will you put my tears in your bottle?
I tried to read the words on the pages
Then I screamed but wasn't heard
My lack of time takes hold
I try to look ahead but my story is untold
My joy keeps fading away
Pain is here to stay
I've only got one chance
To make my life much better
I think it might be her
What happened to our romance
Will I be satisfied
Will I love her until the end of time
Lord, it makes me cry
I want to see her hand resting into mine
