Lyrics
THE ROAD
The road that I'm on has turned to gravel;
Dust from under my wheels is now in my eyes.
The way isn’t clear as it once seemed;
Visibility's poor, I can't see like before,
And, I find myself wond'rin' if this was the right road to travel.
Faith that I had has long since departed;
The view that’s before me’s distorted and vague.
There’s no way to see just where I'm headed,
All the games people play,_ they get in the way;
And, I wish I had known what I know now, the day that I started.
Where this road has led, I couldn't have guessed.
Though detours were many, breakdowns were few;
Switchbacks and curves have changed my direction,
I've paid many a toll, and I’ve forgotten the goal,
And, even though I’ve grown weary, there's hardly a moment to rest.
I don’t understand what keeps pushing me on.
How did I fall for the things that were said?
I don't know why I've gone where I've gone.
Will it change from the past or is certain disaster ahead?
Some people seem to have easy sailing;
The course that they’re on seems so straight and smooth.
They always seem to know where they're going,
Rolling along, they never seem to go wrong,
But, they may never learn all the lessons that I've learned from failing.
