Story Behind the Song
I wrote the beginning of this song shortly after I left Texas. It started as a way to croon myself some condolences for missing the state and my girlfriend and the many nights we spent getting drunk before I left. The song inevitably became about the rest of the self-destructive process we went through while I was getting out on my own. Much of it could very easily be a factual account of how she was before and after I left. In some sections of the song, I admit, I may have projected my own actions onto her. We got through it anyway.
