Story Behind the Song
We did this just because it's fun to play, plus people
always enjoy hearing it. Steve, Mike and Vince all have a go at singing lead,
with Don in the choruses. This number features Eric "Fingers" Barclay on accordion.
Lyrics
Wild Rover
I've been a Wild Rover for many's the year
And I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the Wild Rover no more
Chorus:
And it's no, nay, never.
No, nay, never more.
Will I play the Wild Rover
No never more.
I went into an alehouse I used to frequent
And I told the landlady my money was spent
I asked her for credit, she answered me "Nay!
Such as custom as yours I can have any day."
Chorus:
I pulled out from me pocket 10 sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight
She said "I have whiskeys and wines of the best
But the words that I spoke they were only in jest"
Chorus:
I'll go home to my parents and confess what I've done
I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son
And when they've caressed as of times before
Then I never will play the Wild Rover no more.
Chorus:
