Story Behind the Song
- This song has what I call a spooky groove.
- With this song, I wanted to write a real heavy riff with a horror movie style progression. I had been toying with the title for a long time and even considered it for my artist name, but decided against it. It does fit my personality though.
- The Intro starts out with sparse drum hits with a pipe strike sound. The guitar starts in with a clean / flanger tone. The notes are D-A-Ab. The key of the song is D. The heavy gated chords are inverted power chords, which are played pretty much throughout the song this way. I almost got out "Frankenstein" because drop-D tuning works excellent with this song. I still liked the Washburn for its playability and tone. Also a first on this song is the use of a 31-band EQ that was chained in with the Digitech RP-12 to give the riff some chainsaw punch.
- The Verse kicks in with a version of the main riff. The rhythm guitar then switches over to the groove version with a harmonic chord at the end of each round. Throughout the song, the bass guitar plays single notes complimenting the riff.
- The Chorus continues with inverted chords and heavy riffs while the melody plays a kind of harmonic minor-ish scale. The notes are D-A-Ab-Eb-D-A-Ab-D-Db. The effect is a reverb with a lot of echo.
- The "Solo" section is more of sound and effect than a real melody. I wanted a spooky screaming sound that would sound eerie. A lot of whammy action here. There is also a key change from D to F# at this point and a new riff.
- The Ending continues with the F# riffs and fades out from there.
