Story Behind the Song
This song was composed for Turner Classic Movies Young Film Composer's contest. It is scored for a piece of the Silent Film "The Merry Widow." In this piece, Sally, the dancer, has come to Ruritania to perform. Three men, Prince Danilo, Prince Mirko, and Baron Sardoja each become fascinated with different aspects of her. Within the piece, each man's love is represented by a small theme. Sardoja is obsessed with her feet and is represented by the bassoon line. Mirko's lust for her body comes forward in a pounding heartbeat shown in the timpani. Finally, Danilo's love is represented in a lush string melody. .
