    Story Behind the Song
"Do You Ever Wonder" was the first song that Steve and I wrote together, probably four years ago. When we first got together, we were playing all of Steve's songs, and I was just going to back him up at a show at the Bluebird. But once we heard our voices together, and saw the reaction we got, we formed Beggarz Opera, and we had no idea if we would be able to write together.

I had gone on vacation to see my mom in Atlanta, and took my guitar with me. I often find that a change of scenery will bring some new idea, and I came up with the chords for "Do You Ever Wonder" in my mom's spare room. When I got back to Nashville, I played the chords for Steve, and he immediately sang, "I'd love to hear your laughter for a while . . ." Steve has always had a unique ability to find the first line of a song automatically. I honestly don't know quite how he does it so consistently.

We were off and running, and wrote the first verse in a few minutes. I went home that night and wrote a dummy chorus, which we wound up changing and using, and a second verse, which we used intact. We wrote a third verse which we felt was superfluous, so we got rid of it and sang this with two verses, an instrumental break and a third chorus. We demoed it that way and had a great reaction from it.

About a year ago, I was trying to come up with a solo for the instrumental verse, and the more I played with it, the more I felt that it added nothing to the song. I wound up writing a bridge for the song which so excited me that I called Steve up and played it for him over the phone, and he loved it, so we used it. We recorded a new demo with the bridge, infinitely better than our old demo.

This was recorded at The Hit Kitchen with Jim Furrow engineering. I recorded three tracks of guitars, Steve sang his lead, and he and I sang three tracks of blended background vocals. This is one of the best songs we have written together in my opinion.

Thanks for hitting our site. I hope you enjoy "Do you Ever Wonder".

    Lyrics
I'd love to hear your laughter for a while
There's a thousand wordless pictures in your smile
I've never quite gotten over you that's why
I guess I never really said goodbye

    Do you ever wonder
    Where did our love go
Do you sometimes feel you're going under
Well you never know what the future holds
    Do you miss me
Do you wonder why did we say goodbye
    And do you wonder
If you could still come back to me

I remember nights I held you like a child
I remember conversations hard and wild
I remember you take sugar in your tea
And I wonder if you ever think of me

    REPEAT CHORUS

Do you dream of days that might have been
Or hope someday that we'll be friends
And do you ever wonder if you'll ever love again
Do you get lost in yesterday
    When loneliness seemed far away
And do you wonder where we'd be today

    REPEAT CHORUS
