Story Behind the Song
The song was the result of a guitar pattern I was experimenting with, I often find inspiration through such exercises. Sometimes word images form, and sometimes thought pictures. In this instance, I envisoned a woman whose lover was off to seek his fortune, while she is expected to wait patiently behind. It evolved into an inverse of the old Hank Williams song "I Won't Be Home No More".
Lyrics
You say, We'll Meet Again, Perhaps someday, we make it work
And somehow, we'll meet again
I wake up to the shadow of dawn, open my eyes and find you are gone
We'll meet again you say, perhaps someday
But I can't wait forever
I'm not that kind of gal
While you're busy roaming, why should I stick around?
You say, you're tired of this place
That you're bound for leaving and I cannot keep you
You say perhaps someday, We'll meet again
The echoes of dawn they call in my ear
But I cannot hear them since you've disappeared
I hear you say to me, that we'll meet again
You say you're bound for leaving, but I cannot wait for you
While you're busy roaming, I'll find other things to do.
You say you're leaving, for how long you do not know
But you're leaving, and that's all you know.
And you say we'll meet again
Perhaps we'll meet again
You say we'lll meet again, but you do not say when.
