Story Behind the Song
Upon examining this clip, I found that the true horror of this scene lies in the conflict between fear and desire - evil and seduction. I wanted to find a musical approach that would support Nosferatu's obviously monstrous nature while still doing justice to the seductive quasi-romantic quality of his hypnotic will. I found that Ellen seemed to respond to Nosferatu's powers of hypnosis, not only with recoiling madness, but also with swooning passion as if overwhelmed by an inner battle between her will to survive and a deep-seated desired to be seduced. I hope that others will find my approach to be valid and that my music helps to illustrate this poignant paradox.
