Story Behind the Song
Seeing the suffering on Sept. 11th, I searched for something positive from this tragedy. I noticed that there were many instances where people reached out to each other in love, even as they were suffering greatly or dying themselves. It felt important to document that love.
Lyrics
THEY REACHED OUT TO LOVE
ALICE OLSEN
She called him from her cell phone,
To say, “I love you”, one last time,
On a plane bound for disaster,
Among crewmen, dead and dying.
As the killing blades grew closer,
And the plane dove from above,
With the final words she gave to him,
They reached out to Love.
Chorus:
They reached out to help each other,
Forgetting all their fears.
They reached out to one another,
Through their pain and through their tears.
With open hearts they met their Maker,
In the heavens above,
And in the light that they found there,
They reached out to Love.
In destruction and in terror,
The two friends knew their death was near,
As the building broke beneath them,
And they faced their greatest fear.
But in their hearts a peaceful calm,
Came shining from above,
And as they jumped together, hand in hand,
They reached out to Love.
(Repeat Chorus)
The searchers sifted rubble,
With only one thing on their minds,
To give comfort, aid and healing,
To any they might find.
As they held the injured in their arms,
Death came thundering from above.
But in their final moments,
They reached out to Love.
(Repeat Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)
And as their stories touch each one of us,
Yes, they still reach out to Love.
