Story Behind the Song
This piece was my first attempt at a traditional symphonic form, during my college days at the Oberlin Conservatory.
This first movement is in fairly straighforward Allegro-Sonata form, with two main melodies. The first is performed by the solo violin from the first measure with no introduction. The second is based on a gregorian chant.
The piece is obviously very melodic, with both traditional major/minor/modal tonality, with some variation. The violin actually plays two cadenzas, one directly after the exposition of the first melody, and the second in the traditional spot right after both melodies are recapitulated, and right before the closing measures.
The entire piece was synthesized using Cakewalk Home Studio. SInce the piece is 12 years old, I honestly don't recall how long it took to write, but the translation into electronic form was a blast.
