The final mix is here!!Now with (by Dave's estimation) 4 BILLION VOCAL OVERDUBS!!This was written immediatly after Sept.11,and finally mixed down on March 15,2002!(Studio time cost money 'n' stuff!) By the way, there are only about 48 vocal overdubs scattered throughout.(Dave's estimate was slightly exaggerated) |

Story Behind the Song
"A day cannot live in infamy without the nourishment of rage.Let there be rage!"-Lance Morrow in a Time magazine editorial about Sept. 11th.
Lyrics
Requiem for a Coward (Wrath of a Nation)
Satanic Reich had risen to try and take us out
But a mighty giant awakened to swing the hammer down
Twin Towers toppled in an act of cowardly disgrace
By a demonic abomination to the human race
If you're so strong and mighty, tell me why you hide?
You know we're going to get you squarely in our sites
Only a matter of time until your destiny and death the same
Blessed be the blazing bullet that bears your bastard name
CHORUS
Don't tread on me unless you're ready to reap the wrath
These colors don't run, talons are poised for counter attack
Don't tread on me,spineless coward who runs and hides
We've yet begun.....we've yet begun to fight!
Not just an attack on me
And not just my country
But an attack on liberty
For all the good world to see
You think you'll see Heaven?!
Oh..you probably will
I'm sure they'll let you look up at it
From your shroud of flames in Hell!
solo
Grief turns to anger turns to resolution
The armor is dented, but the spirit's not broken
You only forged the mettle of our resolve
So shall arise the day we smoke you out
You say your god commanded this insanity?
Then damn you and eternally for your blasphemy
Hold to thine lips vinted grapes of wrath of a nation
Slowly sip the Chablis of your termination
REPEAT CHORUS
And now, an explanation of what might be "questionable" lyrics...
Satanic Reich is rising ...this refers NOT to Islam or Muslims, but terroist in general. To deliberatly take a human life (especially in the name of your particular God) is satanic.Pure and simple. To take nearly 4,000 lives.. incomprehensible.
Mighty giant awakened ...a para-quote from Emporer Ito of Japan after we dropped nuclear arsenal in WWII
If you’re so strong and mighty...somebody put a hand painted sign at the devastion of The World Trade Center that read "If whoever did this is so strong, why are they hiding?!" So I owe the inpiration for the line to that anonymous sign poster.Thank you whoever you are, wherever you may be.
Blessed be the blazing bullet...A little harsh?I realize it sounds like I'm condoning the extermination of another human being. There's murder, then there's self-defense (Eye for an eye!)"Turn the other cheeck" can only be taken to a certain point.Besides, the person who did this to our nation ,I do NOT consider to be a part of the human race, which brings me to my use of the word "bastard" and the reason I didn't put a pareantal advisory on the song..1) a very simplified definition of the word would be "illegitimate offspring".Therefore, as I do not consider the attacker of our country to be a legitimate member of the human race,I have used the word in a textbook sense. 2) They let Hank Hill say it on TV! (hey, just trying to not be so depressing:P)
Grief turns to anger turns to resolution...for those of you who slept in on Sept 11th, this is pretty much taken directly from one of President Bush's speeches (but shortened to fit the frantic pace of the song)
...damn you and eternally for your blasphemy...Self explanitory I think. There was an article on The Onion with the headline "God Angrily Clarifies 'thou shalt not kill' rule..."4 words,1 syllable each..which part don't you understand?!"
...vinted grapes of wrath of a nation...3rd reference to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" (The other 2 were musical).
