Story Behind the Song
This is a story about two childhood friends who fall in love, and as lovers spend four seasons together-he is a painter, and is terminally ill-she is a songwriter...and writes a song about all of it after he passes-so... the story goes that throughout the ups and downs of his illness and their relationship, he begins and completes a painting encrypted with special memories for her to hold onto when he passes from the earth-Thus the line "Hang, the flowers on my wall"-is in poetic form.
This was a very difficult song to arrange-I wanted to capture the essence of the song, without becoming monotonous-the song is very long-but it tells a story-and I have a shortened version-but this is my favorite-Jeff Tweeter is a genuis composer, arranger, and tech-I could not have achieved this without him. The song took four years after I wrote it to find completion. "Four Seasons"...Ironic.
Lyrics
A field of yellow daises
The thorns of a rose
A lovers knot
Tied by his hands
Angels in the snow
A bracelet of clover
Fairy garlands for my hair
Charcoal drawings, laced with ink
Frayed but yet secure
A cup of sable brushes
Bare feet on a wood floor
And a glass, of midnight talks
His careless signature
Can love last forever?
I want to believe
Hang, the flowers on my wall
A testimony, of his love for me
Red strokes on virgin canvas
Unveiled and redefined
A tinder box of watercolors
His breath on my throat
Relics from the attic
Shadows from my heart
His number penciled in my book
Erased but faintly seen
Is love ever simply
What it seems to be?
Seasons change, and love can fade
To an aching need, to an aching need
modulation-Four seasons of expression
Cryptic, flowing lines
He loved me and he loved me not
Still, he was my best friend
Petals of a daisy
The thorns of a rose
Hang, the flowers on my wall
A testimony of his love for me rpt. end
