Story Behind the Song
An old girlfriend who dumped me after accepting marriage proposal came snooping around several years later, stating different stories about why she was snooping, leaving me to assume that she had recently been dumped.
So this is a Song about a girl who leaves a guy, only to attempt to come back to him several years later. She finds out he's married, and get's her "Just Dessert". A sad state of affairs.
I wrote the music for this song 20 years years ago and due to the length of the melody, never found appropriate lyrics. I recently sat down and played the chords on my Classical guitar, thought about how this girl's sad state of affairs, and the lyrics naturally poured out.
I recorded the song myself using the nylon string guitar Mark gave me. I play bass, sing all vocals, sequenced the drums, recorded, and produced the song. It's interesting that my first "serious" guitar was a classical nylon string that was using in my first lessons at Mel Bay studios in Kirkwood, Mo. I hated the guitar, it was not cool, I wanted an electric. However I recently was given a Classical nylon string from my brother Mark, and fell in love with the sound. I like to add percussive sounds with my thumb around the sound hole of the guitar, you can hear it on this song.
Lyrics
Girl, the last time I saw you,
you had left me on my own.
I got lost just thinking about you,
but now I've found my way back home.
And now, your heart is broken...
someone left you all alone.
You got lost just thinking about him,
and now you can't find your way back home.
And it's sad, so sad...
it isn't easy to say,
that I forgot to tell you I love you,
with all my heart.
Girl, you know you've lost me,
I've got love here by my side.
You'll get lost just thinking about me,
and still you can't find your way back home.
And now, you'll go on searching,
for the one who can make things OK.
You'll get far, too far away,
until you can't find your way back home.
And it's sad, so sad...
it isn't easy to say,
that I forgot to tell you I love you,
with all my heart.
Yes now, you'll go on searching,
for the one who can make things OK.
You'll get far, too far away,
until you can't find your way back home.
And it's sad, so sad...
it isn't easy to say,
that I forgot to tell you I love you,
with all my heart.
