Story Behind the Song
The artist is incarcerated in a prison in Texas. As a part of the inmate's mental rehabilitation, the prison counseling staff has enabled Tex to record this song as therapy. The song was co-written by Tex and fellow inmate R. Martin Rudd in 1999, and produced in Nashville at Westpark Sound, with Brian Duncan, producer, and players from the reba McIntyre and Shania Twain bands. The song was performed in one take, due to Mr. Abilene's anger management problems.
Lyrics
"THERE'S A LITTLE GIRL INSIDE OF ME'
Written by: Randy "Tex" Abilene and R. Martin Rudd
Well people tell me all the time, but it ain't true, there's an evil man inside of you.
I've been a rebel all my life, but they can't see, deep within the thing that's bothering me.
I used a bottle and my fists to ease my pain, but I swear to god it's driving me insane.
It's hid from all the world, so no one knows but me — there's a little girl inside of me.
BRIDGE
I have a dream about my prison pals and me. I'd have over for some cookies and some tea.
So we could sit, and chat, and share some sympathy. Then I could come right out and say "Hey!" There's a little girl inside of me!"
CHORUS
Now from the gals along the way I've had to hide, the fact that I'm in touch with my feminine side. I'd wear a fancy dress, if it were up to me. There's a little girl inside of me!
CHORUS
There's a little girl inside.
About my lifestyle — so I lied!
There's a little girl inside of me!
