A cautionary blues ballad for those considering the no-hassle approach to life |
CD: a little of that
Credits: All music and lyrics written by Laura Ranieri. Produced and Arranged by Darren Donaghey and Paul Pfisterer for Catapult Recording Company, Toronto, Canada. |
Story Behind the Song
Originally written in double time with more of a rock feel - But jazzy chord changes really came alive with slower "blues" tempo. Lesson learned: Be sure to play with tempo - it can be surprising!
Lyrics
He drives his Pontiac to see her in the dead of night,
A cokehead stripper called Jacque-lyne.
He’s built like a bull, but gentle as rain,
He just likes cheap women cause it’s easier that way.
Easier …that way
Easier …let lay
Easier - play it safe.
It’s easier that way
He used to love a lady who spoke Shakespeare rhymes,
He was out of his class; he went out of his mind.
So his mamma dragged him home and back to church each day.
Back to prayin’ sweet Jesus cause it’s easier that way
His life, it might be great,
If he just had the guts to break
Free from his blue-collar, Baptist chains.
Cause in the end, it’s nothing ventured, nothing gained.
He drives his Pontiac to see her every night
A cokehead stripper who became his wife
He’s still working at the pit stop every day.
It’s a job, it’s a living and it’s… easier that way.
