Story Behind the Song
I'd been reading a book by the Dalai Lama called Ethics For a New Millennium right around the time of the September 11 attacks and this song just kind of came out of feelings I had about that situation and the state of the world in general. It may sound hokey, but it's true - we are all part of a whole. Whatever we do to somebody else effects us as much as the person to whom we're doing the harm.
Lyrics
We Are One
When you look in the mirror,
What do you see?
Do you see you,
Staring back at me?
And do you ever wonder,
What it’s like to be in my shoes,
As much as I wonder,
What it’s like to be you.
And I,
I’m in you,
And you in me.
Yea, I’m in you,
And you in me,
We Are One.
When you pray to the heavens,
Who hears your cry?
Is it the same one,
That hears mine?
And do you ever wonder,
What makes you different than me?
As much as I wonder,
When love will set us free?
And I,
I’m in you,
And you in me.
Yeah, I’m in you,
And you in me-
We Are One.
When you slap my face,
Don’t you feel the sting,
I know you miss the heat,
My love will bring.
And I,
I’m in you,
And you in me.
Yeah, I’m in you,
And you in me-
We Are One.
Blissful mind,
Peaceful Sky,
We Are One.
Blissful Mind,
Peaceful Skies,
We Are One.
