Story Behind the Song
Actually written on Valentine’s Day, this is a true love song. Recorded as a rock n’ roll love song, I also play it slow and sappy as I had originally written it. It feels good either way, I’d say. It’s fact and fiction, names have been changed to protect the innocent. If the truth be known, my valentine that year, like many years before, was none other than Sir Buddy Blue, my faithful friend.
Lyrics
I met a young Boston boy, he was about my age.
Said “I’m writing the book of my life, and you’re the next page.
I’m young, strong and able. I can put the food on the table,
Lover won’t you be my wife?”
Chorus:
Cause I spent too many years out on the road,
Rollin’ over the bumps and cracks, without a hand to hold.
Now that I found you I’m gonna make a brand new start and I’m
tellin’ you baby I don’t ever want to part.
Well I said “Baby, I just don’t believe my eyes!
Don’t you know I’ve been looking for you all this time?
I thought that you were like a diamond in the sand,
I’d be a happy woman if you’d just be my man.”
Cause I spent too many years out on the road,
Rollin’ over the bumps and cracks, without a hand to hold.
Now that I found you I’m gonna make a brand new start and I’m
tellin’ you baby I don’t ever want to part.
So we wrote it in our book of days and photos on the wall.
Now we’re lookin’ back at the time when the children were still small.
“Take a walk in the woods with me, February’s fine.
And tell me darlin’ won’t you be my Valentine?”
Cause we spent too many years out on the road,
Rollin’ over the bumps and cracks, without a hand to hold.
Thirty years ago we made a promise of the heart and I can
tell now baby, We ain’t ever gonna part…..Hmm Hmm Hmm…..
