    Story Behind the Song
“Lucky Like Me” was written after being called “lucky” by a friend. I was “lucky” to have gone to school in such lush, beautiful country, “lucky” to have lived two years in a school bus living on money earned at Grateful Dead shows selling dresses, hemp jewelry and veggie burritos. I was “lucky” to lead the life of a artist. Well my friend, “lucky” wasn’t so easy. “Lucky” was sometimes cold and damp, “lucky” was sometimes scared and full of doubt, but when “lucky” was good it made it all worthwhile. I feel it’s my obligation to pursue my dreams but it’s not an easy road to take. There’s no big, family fortune indulging my whims. I feel that anyone can be “lucky”, just choose that path and don’t listen when they try and tell you you’re going the wrong way, they are lost.

    Lyrics
You called me lucky the other day,
To live this life I’ve lived.
Don’t you know baby I had to sacrifice,
And give all that I had to give.

    Chorus:
And things don’t come easy darlin’,
    They don’t come free.
But you could be lucky like me,
    Lucky like me,
You can be lucky like me.

Well I’ve made some friendships to last all my life,
And I know someday, I’ll make a good wife.
I know there’s one thing that I’ll guarantee,
I’ll make him lucky like me. Lucky like me,
Yeah I’ll make him lucky like me.

And I can move mountains if I only try
Spread my wings and take flight like the butterfly,
I’ve put seeds in the ground now I’m watchin’ them grow
Now I’m gonna reap what I’ve sown
    And be lucky like me.
I can be lucky like me.

And things don’t come easy darlin’,
    They don’t come free.
But you could be lucky like me,

    Lucky like me,
You can be lucky like me.
    Lucky like me,
You can be lucky like me.
