    Story Behind the Song
Many church traditions and practices include the structure and discipline of a catechism. This is a time of doctrinal study for young teen minds to grapple with the significant truths of the faith that has been handed to them to this point. Many churches do not have the structure and discipline of catechism and sadly have replaced it with nothing. Suddenly, the teenager goes through a season of doubt, or wanders from the faith. Without the doctrines to act as a guide through these years, the teen has little help in his wanderings and journeys as he tries to discover why he is here and what he is supposed to be doing with his life.

And yet, God sees fit in every person to be seen (Romans 1:20), and God draws seekers to Himself during this time. In that journey, faith that was once "hand me down" becomes personal. for some, the journey is painless, and a simple transaction of life. For others, it is gut wrenching, and painful to watch. Some come out of this journey with no scars. Others have spiritual bruises and the folks on the sideline watch and wonder if he or she will ever get it at all. In the process, there is great joy when one can exclaim that the God that has been worshiped in the church for centuries and millennia is now his or her personal God.

    Lyrics
I grew up on the coat tails of faith.
    Playing Sunday School
    Like any other game.
    Just the same.
    I would look at life
Through my parents point of view,
Doing what they told me to,
Till the day came when I grew.

    Chorus:
    And now...
This God of theirs is mine.
I'm not gonna leave Him behind.
    My adventure begins today.
And now I know I've got a lot to learn.
Lots of corners that I gotta turn.
    But He's mine now.
And I'm His for all time.
This God of theirs is mine.

It is my race to sink or swim.
    Responsible to Him.
For what I do and say.

    Chorus
