Story Behind the Song
The average teenager has always worn a restless heart as a badge of identity. It is hard to be at peace when you are making up your life's mind. Because parents are not at peace, and then even more on edge because of the restlessness of their kids...well, you have a battle on your hands, and that is what the title cut of this album is all about.
When the battle is new and fresh between parent and teen, everyone scraps a bit and then goes about their business. After all, isn't this what parent-teen stuff is all about? Doesn't every family have this kind of conflict? But then the wounds get deeper, and suddenly the scars cannot heal. Suddenly the sullen silence gets a bit too overwhelming...paralyzing in that people now can't get out of the relationship jam that they are in.
In this battle, the church must emerge to befriend both sides, giving both parents and teens allies to help bring the squabbles and the distancing to a close. This album helps highlight some points that both parents and teens can both discover and act on to bring the sides back into the ring.
Lyrics
[NEWSBRIEF: "Following today's top story, experts are claiming that the American family is losing its battle for providing security and love for its members. Some people blame the high divorce rate that has been steadily climbing over the past decade. Others blame the lack of discipline and time that parents have been taking to raise their children. Here with a special report is The Mission On Banjo Project..."]
In the heartland of America,
A showdown has begun.
With a mother and father
Going 'gainst daughter and son.
The lines are drawn with words,
The stage is set.
The lines are drawn with words
That they'll regret.
It was something he did.
It was something she said.
It was up late one evening
As we lay awake in bed.
Some permanent damage.
See the scars.
See the scars.
Feel the scars.
Chorus:
The Battleground. The Battleground.
Where wounded families can be found.
We struggle not with flesh and blood.
But the forces of Hell
Set their face against the Family
On Main Street U.S.A.
In the heartland of America,
There has to come a day
When we seize back the family
That's been stolen away.
The world has destroyed it
With their songs.
The world fights against it
All day long.
Gotta keep the lines open.
Gotta learn to forgive.
Gotta step back and evaluate
How as a family you should live.
It might take some time
To heal the scars.
Heal the scars. Heal the scars.
Chorus
