Story Behind the Song
Asked my friend Amy for a rhyme for "princess" for another song--this grew from that beginning. Quickly written and then quickly recorded by the Existential Cowboy Band...which is just me, Stephen Brooke, at the moment.
Lyrics
My redneck princess
Roped me like a steer,
Left me hanging like a deer;
Couldn't jump them fences
Fast enough.
Soon as I'm rope-less
Gonna hunt her far and near,
Gonna drink me some beer,
'Cause I feel so hopeless;
Lord she treats me rough!
And I'm her redneck prince,
Been ever since
She stole my Stetson,
And you can bet, son,
It looks better on her
Than a silver spur
On python boots;
Ain't my princess cute?
My redneck princess
Ran me down with her truck,
But first she hollered "Duck!"
So don't try and convince us
It ain't right.
I know she missed me
While I was on the mend;
That other guy was just a friend.
Why she even kissed me
Come Saturday night!
