    Story Behind the Song
I'm Australian (and proud of it) and I know a guy who only literally knows three chords and loves country music. However, he always sings with a twang in his voice even though he's got a great one. This number was written as a satirical dig at him and all the other Aussie country artists who think they have to sound American.(no offense to Americans but Australians must realise they should try to keep their own identity).
It'a fun song with some clever lyrics and and interesting chord progression in the last verse. See what you think!

    Lyrics
    COUNTRY SINGERS
Words and music by David Fielder-Gill 1996
    Verse 1
Why do all country singers sound the same?
I've been listenin' for so many years and their voices never change
There's a twang with every strum of their guitar
    Chorus:
There's tradition there I know why does everybody follow
    The American country singer's style?
They ain't got originality so they walk a country mile to sing the American country singer's style

    Verse 2
Why do all country singers sing sad songs?
The only words I hear are filled with tears cos somebody's done someone wrong
I'm in a fix ain't life a bitch Mary Jane?
    Chorus
    Bridge
With high-leather boots and a Stetson hat and faded denim blue jeans a fancy-checked shirt and a flash guitar hey buddy you're
part of the scene if you got the American country singer's style.

    Verse3
Why do country singers only use three chords?
Maybe music is so dear to them and that's all they can afford.
A minor change to augment their songs would diminish a major bore
    Chorus

They can't spell originality they'd rather walk that country mile to sing the American country singer's style, the American country singer's style.
