This is a poem of mine that I recently found and put to music. It's a pretty harsh self-criticism again, but with a positive twist at the end.

    Story Behind the Song
I wrote the poem when I was 22. I found it when I was 26. At 22 I was embarassed by it. Now I am quite proud of it.

    Lyrics
In all situations you try to be so kind
Then you only feel frustration when you end up in a bind
    You should have seen.
But everybody else can tell you're green.

You try to hide it with a beard. You put on some weight.
No matter what you do you just can't seem to get it straight.
    You're in the dumps.
That's a place that you have lived in more than once.

There's people that will tell you things that you just can't believe.
Listen close: you'll hear the ring of something up their sleeve
    Something's no good.
Think twice before you give. You know you should.

And you haven't left the garden of virginity but once.
You were thinking with a hard-on. You returned after some months
    Unto that place,
With the gravity of life etched in your face.

And it didn't look the same without the leaves upon the trees.
You had to take the blame. It was your only remedy.
    Then you moved on.
Now the garden of virginity is gone.

At times you may be destitute of people for to hold.
And life, my friend, down to her roots, she may be wet and cold.
    That's when it's true:
There's no one left to count on now but you.

And so you try to leave the house to take the world by storm.
You'll get knocked down onto your knees 100 times or more.
    You'll be all right
As long as you can keep the truth in sight.

You still feel like a child in ways you can't comprehend.
And you know that there are changes coming just around the bend
    If you can wait.
The prettiest of flowers all bloom late.
