Story Behind the Song
Written about Sarah Hughes gold medal performance in Womens Figure Skating at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
I wrote all of the lyrics first, without any idea of how the music would sound. It took 1 week from the evening I saw her win the gold medal to write, arrange and record.
Lyrics
Grace On Glass
(Sarah's Story)
1. Pour me over ice, slowly melt my heart
Dancing in the wind, is it in the cards
Shimmering alive, effortlessly glide
Shivering inside, step outside the ride
2. Spinning through the air, balance on a knife
Wind entwines your hair, fate unwinds your life
Gracefully you soar, magic in your stride
Somehow giving more from somewhere deep inside
(Chorus)
Grace On Glass, sweet sixteen
Invitations to your dream
Grace On Glass, gliding flight
Your reflection melts the ice
Grace On Glass, set the pace
Intense emotion in your face
Grace On Glass, take the gold
Forever after - Sarah's story will be told
3. Captivating depth, fluid in your moves
Watch you hold your breath, anticipating grooves
Surely building speed, pivot on your skill
Drawing on a force, an unrelenting will
4. Step into the air, spinning like a top
Suspended in your style, knowing when to drop
Casually you land, lightly touching down
Knowing in your heart what precious few have found
(Bridge)
Rise above your tender years
Ride the wave of countless cheers
Take your place above the rest
Sarah you're the best
