    Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song in a sadly moribund relationship that I always thought would go the distance. Confronted with the fact that it would not, I found myself trying all the prescribed methods to alleviate the hurting. However, in the end, I just reverted to the pad and pen and took an introspective look at the childlike vulnerability I was feeling and became the song's reluctant changeling.

    Lyrics
Close your eyes and count to ten
    When you're through, I'll begin
    Use your fingers
    Use your toes
    Minutes fall like dominoes.

    Feel the seconds floating past
    Somewhere through the looking glass
A frozen image just like you
    Always there but never true.

    All the little pieces fall
Is it raining where you are?
    Have you forgotten me again?
Close your eyes and count to ten.

Before you know the game is gone
But the hiding still goes on and on and on...
And in your sleep who is wrong or right
Now that you're alone at night?
    Morphean sheep your only friend
Close your eyes and count to ten.

    All the little children call
Would you catch me if I fall?
    Maybe you'd remember then
Close your eyes and count to ten.

    Smiling when the faces fall
    Mirror mirror on the wall
    Staring back at me again
    Close your eyes...
Close your eyes and let's pretend.

    She wore midnight blue
And she swore that midnight too
And she wore the flame of the candlelight.
