Nine or ten months after completing the original sequencing of Zodiak's "Shelter," I decided to revisit this great theme and retro-fit the instruments, filters, amps, etc., as well as seriously enhance the drums and rewrite the whole third movement (begins at 1:56 in the song). If you thought my original release of this song was likeable, you should really dig this! |

Story Behind the Song
"Shelter" was originally written by Zodiak (Erik Stridell) and served as the background music for Cascada Demo Section's "Holistic" demo in 1994. The demo featured multiple layered effects, such as combined environment-mapping and Gouraud-shading of objects. When I first watched the demo in late '95 or early '96, the combination of 3D animation and music really touched me. You know, down there.
Erik was kind enough to grant me permission to publish my version in 2001. However, as I have listened to it over the months, parts of it seemed... well... empty. Like George Lucas returning to polish off Star Wars, I decided to return and polish off this great song. (Not that I'm comparing myself to George, of course.)
This piece does everything it can to pack as much information into a sound wave as sixteen bits at 44,100Hz will hold, and features up to ten simultaneous voices.
