Story Behind the Song
The last time I saw my little brother alive was on Easter he was showing me his bedroom that morning and how he had painted it. He had painted his name...FrankieLeroy across the wall in red paint, much like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, altho this was years before Rocky Horror was ever released. That evening was the last time I saw my brother alive.
Lyrics
FrankieLeroy(I Remember You)
Written By Archie Floyd Bowen
Say Hi to Janis and Jimmi for me
Elvis Presley and Jim Croche
And Frankie Leroy as a brother to me
Save me a place in music's family
Life's melody you played
Beautifully relayed
A never faded rapsody
The memories are made
The music's about to fade
Into an everlasting melody
Say Hi to Janis and Jimmi for me
Say Hi to Janis and Jimmi for me
Oh I remember Frankie Leroy was four
And I was going on six
We were playin' out front of grandma's house
Fixin' to get our little bottoms licked
It was Easter morning there were Easter Eggs flyin' by
We were having fun
Throwin' Easter Eggs at each other
It was better than eatin' one
Daddy stood on the porch and come a runnin' at us
We started runnin' the other way
When he caught up with me, I wished I'd never seen
An Easter Egg that day
Oh Frankie Leroy I remember you well
You've got so many friends that can tell
A story or two about you
And how you inspired them so well
As a young man I couldn't understand
What livin' life was all about
The reasons for my being here wasn't clear
But I found out
I remember me and Frankie Leroy
Peepin' into some of our toys
It was Christmas Eve I got a new guitar
We were just a couple of boys
I practiced hard to learn to play
Didn't have anything to say
Till I wrote a song about Frankie Leroy
And how he died on Easter day
I've been sent here to play my guitar
You've been sent here to hear me play
I got my new guitar on Christmas
And started singing on Easter day
Only four years ago, your name dripped down in blood
On the bedroom wall
I looked at you, You looked at me
Frankie Leroy I heard momma call
And Archie Floyd come to the table
It's last supper call for all
Oh Frankie Leroy I remember you well
Your such an inspiration to us all
It was a beautiful Easter evening, you always enjoyed life
You were riding your motorcycle, I was visiting with my wife
The telephone rang, they said Frankie's Dead, I remembered that bedroom wall
You knew you were going home that night, your such an inspiration to us all
Oh Frankie Leroy, I'll never forget you
Frankie Leroy, I remember you well
Frankly Frankie, if it wasn't for Christmas, and Easter, and You
I wouldn't have one of the greatest stories...to tell
Say hi to Janis and Jimmi for me
Elvis Presley and Jim Croche
Say hi to Janis and Jimmi for me.
