Story Behind the Song
I went out to Brownsburg, Indiana one summer to see a couple of friends of mine. The piece could be interpreted as melancholy but I view it more as introspective. I think that there's a real beauty in it also, and both of these things factored into the title.
Fong Sai Yuk came together from a series of rehearsals that drummer/composer Koven Smith and bassist Matt Rubano were doing one summer. I had played with them a couple fo times and we decided to try to bluff our way into a show at Mama Kin - which we managed to do. We pulled a set's worth of original and cover material together (including John Carpenter's Halloween Theme and Raymond Scott's Powerhouse) and got Luis Gonzalez to play (brilliant) electric violin on it.
So this is the track. While the name comes from the Jet li movie, I had already decided that for this performance we would all be known as Chun, master of Shinanju from the Remo Williams movie.
