"You're On Fire" is one of our favorite songs, both recorded and in our live show. Starting from a soft guitar and vocal introduction, it quickly builds up to a thunderous chorus, with singer Teresa Kelly reminiscing about past wild times with a friend. The song ends with a view to the future: "What am I supposed to do, tomorrow's getting closer/If I turn into you, I'll be surprised." | MP3.com CD: The Phoenix Trap - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
This is an example of how we tweak and tweak something until it comes out right -- the song was written in D but then raised a half-step to Eb to strain Teresa's voice a touch, giving it that extra edge. And Edan re-arranged Chad's guitar parts in the studio, giving them more of a jangly feel and letting the bass take more of the harmonic movement.
Lyrics
You were uptight, you were unwound, I wasn't the same
Now you can ignite from the ground a steady flame
You are the kindling, you're the friction, I remain
You think I'm kidding, but you changed while I'm the same
Tick tock, how time has passed
Remembering when we were trashed
'Til someone threw us out
You were so embarrassed
I said that I couldn't care less
I thought that was what life's all about
Now you're on fire
You were so fazed by any word, I had no fear
Now you set ablaze if disturbed by a tear
You are so red, you're a warmer orange shade
You're in my head wonder should I do the same
Tick tock, how time can fly
Remembering how we would try to
Throw the whole world off
You were so ashamed
I said do not be afraid
But you were not scared, just had enough
Now you're on fire
I'm looking in the mirror, tomorrow's getting nearer
I see the whites of my own eyes
What am I supposed to do, tomorrow's getting closer
If I turn into you, I'll be surprised
You're on fire, and I wanna put you out
