Story Behind the Song
The song is about doing what you want to do no matter what people around you say, and how it is an unwritten' law that everyone wants to put you down because you do something that you love doing.
'Unwritten Law' had been played for a long time in the bed room but it only took about a week to write with the whole band. It was an easy song to record and only took about two takes.
Lyrics
Is it real, cause' ya leave me with just one question full of depression,
Ya' live a life long lesson, spose thats what ya' asked for,
Knock knock knocken' at the door,
With a forty-four don't matter what I say,
Cause' ya'll believe in the majority,
Cause that’s the way things seem to work around here,
It's an unwritten law, with a huge fuckin' flaw like a forty-four,
Knock knock knocken' at the door, majority rules, majority fools,
That talk about the news that happend so long ago,
But never mind, cause I'm not that kind dwell on the past,
I just think it's bullshit that ya talk about me,
Unwritten law
I say it as I see it,
Just one progression becoming an obsession
Just leading to depression, spose that you asked for,
Knock knock knocken' at the door with a forty-four,
With pins and needles, cause' ya'll believe in authority,
Fuck authority, we got kids on the street,
It's an unwritten law with huge fuckin' flaw like a forty-four,
Knock knock knocken on the door,
More majority rules, majority fools,
Playin pins and needles just killen for the feelin,
Ya' etchin' for the next hit, just a bit, could ya make a little slit,
Just a little bit, I'm far from that cause,
When ya never commin back,
Cuttin' ya slack as I beat ya with a bat,
Unwritten Law
I need the feelin, I'm illen' for the killin', I need my heat to vibrate,
Just so I can concentrate,
Let my mind recuperate,
An let my heart do the thinkin,
An let my mind do the blinkin,
I need the feelin', I'm illen' for the killin', I need my hear to vibrate,
Just so I can concentrate,
