As always, this is a song heavily influenced by early R.E.M. (Fables of the Reconstruction, Murmur). It's the title track of my new CD, which was released in March 2002 and can be found at www.prestongirard.com (or www.cdbaby.com/prestongirard). |

Story Behind the Song
Like everyone, I write from emotional inspiration or to escape from a situation. In the case of "Simple Life", I just wanted to tell a story. It's a story about being trapped in a state of mind. But despite the morbid lyrics, I was actually feeling good about life when I wrote it. It's amazing what change can do for you, if you let it.
Lyrics
You work all day and feed your kids at night.
And when you sleep you leave on every light.
You won't see me.
And when you call out you will wake up here.
So I approach without a trace of fear.
I could live a simple life,
You can be sure of it.
Have myself a little wife,
You can be sure of it.
I call sometimes but you are never home.
One of these days when we are all alone,
You won't see me.
I could stay far away but I'll be here.
So I approach without a trace of fear.
I could live a simple life,
You can be sure of it.
Have myself a little wife,
You can be sure of it.
I didn't know.
I didn't know it.
When I found out, I wrote it down.
When I found out, I wrote it down,
And put it away.
Expect the best and hope you're okay here.
So I approach without a trace of fear.
Because you don't see me.
I could live a simple life,
You can be sure of it.
Have myself a little wife,
You can be sure of it.
Settle down in a little town,
Oh, yes, I see it happen.
Spread the good all around,
I see it happen, yes.
