Story Behind the Song
This is, I believe, the only non-girlfriend related song on the album. It's something I wrote my first month away from home, in college. I always knew I had an extra special family, and an extra special upbringing, but I didn't really realize it until a trip home made me realize that I could find my house with my eyes closed. I just knew how everything felt, and how much I missed my family would guide me home everytime.
Every part of our success has been because of our folks. We love our families very much.
Lyrics
The Way Home
Words and music by Jonathan English
Im riding down the road that knows
The road that always takes me home
Trying to survive the day, trying to get me away
And Im leaving you behind and finding something new
Taking down forever and trying to improve on who?
Please remember lives before
Dont pretend its nothing more
Making something try to be the nothings that turned into we
Its seeming that forever came before I even knew my name
And Im leaving you behind and finding something new
Taking down forever and trying to improve on who?
Please remember lives before
Dont pretend its nothing more
Ill never forget days in stone
Ill never forget the way home
Im riding in a sea of tears, unseen unspoken truths
Hiding in your eyes that always said I love you
Knowing that you cant protect what always made me be
Knowing that you cant protect what always made me me
Im riding down the road that knows, the road that still will take me home
Where life has never moved, and love is life I always knew would still be there
Making new eternities can redefine but lets us see you waiting on the porch for me
To come into what made me me
