    Story Behind the Song
When I (Christopher) wrote this song: I plugged in my Telecaster, turned on my trusty "Boss Metal Zone" stump box and locked myself away in my room for about a half hour. The result is "Count on Me". This is one of the songs I'm most proud of because I just wrote it and didn't look back - never changing the words from how they came out or worrying about the very basic chord progression.

When it came time to recording & producing it; we wanted a straight forward in-your-face sound to go along with the "no-bones-a bout-it" lyrics. My favorite part of the entire song is David's part when we sing, "... To convince you that we'll never last". I still get chills when he sings that and holds the last note. It fit perfectly with the mood of the song.

P.S. You Aerosmith fans out there might have noticed the slight "Love in an Elevator" spoof at the end... that was 100% intentional. Even though we're not a "traditional" rock band, we can't help but think, "How would Aerosmith do this?", when we're in the studio. I guess this was just a little nod to their inspiration.i

    Count on Me
Music & Lyrics by Christopher Machado (ASCAP)

    Well, you can expect
    I'll behave my best
For the first six months to a year

    Then the rule books say
    That'll go away
Well little missy, I've got something you should hear

    You can expect I'll fail
    Or end up in jail
Or maybe in your best friends bed
That's what you've come to know
That's not how this story goes
Start using your heart not you head

'Cause you can count on me
    You can count on me
You can count on me to let you down

    With your crysta l ball
    You must see it all
The future you learned from your past

    Misfortune tellers
    Crawl out of the cellars
To convince you that we'll never last

    You can expect I'll fail
    Or end up in jail
Or maybe in your best friends bed
That's what you've come to know
That's not how this story goes
Start using your head not you head

'Cause you can count on me
    You can count on me
You can count on me to let you down
