    Story Behind the Song
This is the first song Chris and George ever wrote together. It's also Chris' singing debut (he sings the "All along..." part and the "You spent so long..." part and sings back up on the choruses too. He's shy. Yay for Chris. The lyrics are about having a friend who keeps on doing the same stupid things over and over again and you want to be sympathetic and empathetic, but the fact that they never learn starts to grow somewhat humorous in sad way. You don't want to be a jerk about it, but at the same time how do you tell them that they can't feel sorry for them if they don't try and change.

    Lyrics
    I never knew
I never thought I'd have to
I know you better than I know myself
    I never knew
I never thought I'd have to
Better than anyone should know anyone else

All along you saw this coming but you're still crying
And I'm fighting back a smile
    I'm trying

And I know you'll take this wrong
    So I apologize in advance
And maybe it will cushion the blow
    I'll take that chance

You never knew you never thought you'd have to
Take the time to improve yourself
You never knew you never thought you'd have to
If you don't love you why should anyone else

You spent so long hurting yourself
It was time someone else joined in
And I don't know what hurt me more
    That they hurt you
    Or that you let them
