Story Behind the Song
- Techno / Hip-Hop meets Hard Rock in this energetic mix of riffage.
- During this song, I wanted to fuse a techno type of drumbeat with some heavy riffs I had written years back. I started out with a drumbeat that could carry the riffs and have various changes to it while still maintaining the groove of the song. I feel the drums really carry the weight of this song. They are very danceable and get you to move, which I find is a requirement for any good song.
- The Intro starts out with sparse drum hits and the guitar fed through a 1-bit distortion effect. Then everything breaks loose when double tracked rhythm guitars and the full compliment of drums kick in. The key is F#m. My favorite.
- The Verse continues with the 1-bit guitar and then switches over to some heavy wah usage. I went more towards complimenting the rhythm rather than the melody at this point. The rhythm guitar plays a wealth of riffs through this section. Also, throughout the song, the bass guitar is playing power chords.
- The sitar sound in the middle of the song is an electric guitar trick with a strategically placed paper clip on the bridge.
- The 'Breakdown' section after the Middle Eastern lick is using the flanger. The rhythm guitar comes in on a heavy noise gate/ staccato riff while the melody plays octave power chords.
- The Solo section is a composite scale that I came up with. Theory-wise I'm not really sure what I'm doing, just that it sounds good. I tend to gravitate to harmonic minor scales plus the usual pentatonic stuff. I wanted a lot of string skipping and complex melodies for this song. There is also a key change from F# to G# half way through the solo to add to the climax.
- The Ending continues with the riffs and finishes out with more Middle Eastern influence.
