Story Behind the Song
I'ld been playing around in our garage with a guitar sound I really liked that seemed
to be a cross between a Randy Rhodes/VanHalen/Jake E. Lee guitar sound... I started
playing a progression of chords which turned into the opening. My brother came in... really liked the
sound, which is a stereo signal tapped from different points out of my distortion / delay pedals then
fed into 2 different amps. My brother picked up his bass, instead of his regular guitar, I played the opening
chords a few times 'till he got the hang of where I wanted to go (as is usually the case), and the
rest of the song just followed... words and all. By the time it was completed... our drummer had come over
to jam a bit, we played it once or twice for him, put a tape in the deck, hit record, and in one take it was done.
The song as heard here at mp3, is it; live, done in one take, with one mic hanging from the ceiling, a shure sm-58,
and no overdubs... just live... Not bad; we like it so much that we kept it. The riffs and leads were all spontaneous, off-the-cuff
played during the actual recording. Cool.
Lyrics
I've got something to say today
Things aren't going my way
Look at me, what you see
Someone who's broken and torn
Taken all but my last breath
Inside nothing much left
Even in my dreams I run
But I just can't find the right door
Gotta hide gotta get away
Find a place for my head to lay
Get high get drunk today oh no
I'm out of my head
Everytime I turn around
Something there to knock me down
How much more can I take
Find the strength to get off the floor
