Story Behind the Song
This song includes three verses written by three different women including myself. We each discuss how we might feel were we to become pregnant, given our current and different situations. We acknowledged the difficult decision some women are faced with upon becoming pregnant and discussed whose right it is to choose. In my verse, "I choose to create."
Lyrics
Waiting on the campus green
we sit tense 'neath the apple tree
and it feels laden with fruit -- like me
I turn to him, he turns away
and my mind is made
Who's to know, Who's to say
who's got the right, who's got the right anyway
I've got my own life, I'm nobody's wife
not looking for the least of disruptions
saving face or falling from grace
I'm frightened and lonely, decision controls me
there's life inside, his life is mine, I choose to create
Who's to know, Who's to say
who's got the right, who's got the right anyway
Blade cuts way too close, this choice I have
My life was spared by someone before me
Why can't I love what's yet to come, not knowing how?
Oblivion is sweeter than my reflection
I choose mine
Who's to know, Who's to say
who's got the right, who's got the right anyway
Who's to know, Who's to say
who's got the right, who's got the right anyway
