Story Behind the Song
Tony came up with the initial concept and melody, and Bob rounded out the lyric and added the bridge. The biggest trick lyrically was to be eschatologically accurate while retaining a certain level of ambiguity regarding times and seasons. We think we pulled it off...
Lyrics
No man knows the hour,
no man knows the day
But all this junk we treasure here
is gonna pass away.
So what manner of people
ought we all to be
In holy conversation
and godly purity?
Amen, the Lord will come again!
Amen, the Lord will come again!
We're looking for a city
in a holy land
So we build upon the rock,
not upon the sand.
You know, it's a faithful doer
who profits from the Word;
The rest will cry, "But Lord, but Lord..."
but they will not be heard...
Amen, the Lord will come again!
Amen, the Lord will come again!
When the trumpet sounds He will receive us —
we'll go up to be with Jesus
Until the Day of the Lord
when He takes His two-edged sword
And He marches down from the skies,
they will see Him with their eyes —
The risen, conquering King —
and we will shout and sing...
Amen, the Lord will come again!
Amen, the Lord will come again!
The Lord will come again
The Lord will come… again.
