    Story Behind the Song
"back to nature" is not an attack on green issues generally,
we all want clean air and litter free streets,
but an attack on environmental fundamentalism where nature takes priority over man.
This seems to be commonly combined with a deep
technophobia (probably because any human development e.g. clothes, houses,
medicine etc. could be considered unnatural)
and has involved protest against things such a radical
new cancer treatment for the sake of the trees it comes from.
The song attempts to show implications of what the environmental fundamentalists (EF) suggest.
Far from the idyllic man in harmony with nature the EFs present,
the pre-industrial age contained poverty, misery, disease and heavy manual toil.
There are 6,157,400,560 (July 2001 est.) in the world,
is hard to see how pre-industrial production methods could support more than roughly 10% of this,
meaning approximately 5,500,000,000 people would have to be sacrificed for the EF cause.

    Lyrics
    You dream in green
    You dream the world back
    And backwards

    To some harmony
    Where man and tree
Where the coughs and the sneezes
    and the spreading dieases
    Made us all fall down

    And we all fall down
    As we all fall

    Back to nature
Hear the cry of the technophobic
    Back to nature
You can live off the land and in the stone age

    You say it's bad
    That man plays god
    Then tell us that
    Man should play animal

    You don't mention the price
    More than five billion lives
Because your world ain't big enough
    for all of us
    For all of us

    And we all fall down
    As we all fall

    Back to nature
Hear the cry of the technophobic
    Back to nature
You can live off the land and in the stone age

    Back to nature
    Back to nature
    Back to nature
    Back to nature

    And from a unabomber shack
Attack the ones who'd change the world
    Trying to cure the planet
    Of what we've done

They want to tear our world down
They want to take away the things we've made
    Tear our world down
    Tear our world down

    From a unabomber shack
Attack the ones who'd change the world
They're trying to rid the planet
    Of progess

But when they can't fight the cold, diease, hunger
    They come crawling back
    They come crawling back

But when they can't fight the cold, diease, hunger
    They come crawling back
    They come crawling back

    Back to nature
    I won't go
    Back to nature
    I won't go
    Back to nature
    I won't go
    Back to nature
    I won't go
