When the struggle of life has beat you down, and you feel empty, like there's nothing else, and your heart is breaking, what do you do? "Listen to your heartbeat!" It's pounding for reality, for truth, for love. The answer is as near as your next breath.
CD: Gospel Graffiti   Label: Marble Records; Copyright 1992
Credits: Johnny Johnson - Vocals, Guitar; Jessica Murphy - Vocal solo, The Quartet; Eric Snyder - 1st Lead & Rhythm Guitar; Ross Stremcha - Drums; Stephen Steinbach - 2nd Lead Guitar; Jim Murphy - Bass Guitar

    Story Behind the Song
The perilous saga of the winter possessed recording session, or the "Jim and Johnny sick as dogs, it's almost over routine": as poor Jim slumps over the recording console with one ear stopped up by a cold and wife, Ronda, on his left doubling as his left ear. Me (Johnny) laying on a mattress on the floor with own tonsils holding my voice at gun point, saying, "not another note out of you." Of course I couldn't sing another note if I tried. The whole Murphy mountain crew at Marble Records was sick, as was my wife and my dogs (which were sick as people). So if you think the recording here sounds a little sick, you're right! haha

    Lyrics
Listen to your heartbeat, the rhythm of loneliness
For your life is one big defeat, and your future's such a mess
Listen to your heartbeat, your road is heading down
There's nobody to claim you, you're in the lost and found

    Chorus:
Oh don't you think that it's yea about time
That you turned around, left the crowd behind?
Oh don't you think that it's yea about time
That you turned around and made up your mind?

Jesus is the one now, to give to you new life
He's rescued from the ocean, and the title wave of strife
Listen to your heartbeat, if you do you'll know it's true
You see your clouds are parting, watch the sky turn blue

Why don't you let Jesus' love fill your heart?
If you do I know, that you'll never depart
Oh don't you think that it's yea about time
That you turned around, and made up your mind?

Listen to your heartbeat, listen to your heart
Listen to your heart beat, listen to your heart
