    Story Behind the Song
As the title suggests this song was written for someone. Actually, that someone is Todd's little brother, Luke. Luke is seven years old. Ironically, the lyrics could be about the "September 11th Attacks", but actually the song was written about three months prior to that infamous day.

One hot summer day, Todd just started singing "Everybody wants to be a hero. Everybody wants to be something they're not. Please tell me that you'll be my hero. Please tell me that you got something I've not." The melody and words to this chorus were constantly in Todd's head for about a month. Todd sang the chorus to the rest of the band, but nothing came of this because the song had no lyrics for the verses and no other music to make for an interesting song. Rob suggested to Todd to think of a father talking to his son and explained that the lyrics hint of a father, who has regretted the things he has done (or not done) in his life, trying to explain his feelings to his son, who worships his father. Having no children of his own, Todd immediately thought of his little brother, Luke and wrote the verses to "Luke" the next day. He presented the lyrics with melody to Kris who labored to find the appropriate guitar work that would express the tone of the song.

    Lyrics
    In these changing times
There's so many things I want to say to you
Don't let them change your mind
Don't let them tell you what to do
You know that I’ll be fine
    My past is my past
    And I’ll start anew
    Just be colorblind
And a bright future waits for you

Everybody want to be a hero, oh oh oh oh
Everybody wants to be something they’re not
Please tell me that you’ll be my hero, oh oh oh oh
Please tell me that you got something I've not

    You're my saving grace
You're everything that I want to be
No one can take your place
Just promise that you’ll do better than me
    There's nothing I can say
Just remember that respect is the key
    Now you’re on your way
You may not understand now but one day you’ll see

    I can’t be your hero
No, I can’t be your hero
Can’t be the man you wanted me to be
I know you never wanted to see me this way
But there's just one thing that I have to say

Everybody want to be a hero, oh oh oh oh
Everybody wants to be something they’re not
Please tell me that you’ll be my hero, oh oh oh oh
Please tell me that you got something I've notˇ
