Story Behind the Song
When I was still able to work with Tony Kirkup, before he moved to Canada, I used to work his poetry (teenage angst, whatever) into a banging song. It's often requested by friends and family at most drunken events and often the venue band are keen to join in with the throbbing melody. This one is good with beer!
Lyrics
Now I feel older and wiser, could lfe be any kinder?
Where you the one I couldn't exist without, my liberty returned on the day you faded out.
I wish you well in your new life, I've no points I need to score.
Progress in your new appointment, even though your a stunning bore.
Enjoy your new department, though I'm perplexed by your allure. And I wonder if you've found contentment, in the arms of the one you never left me for.
Chorus
The One you never left me for (repeated)
