Story Behind the Song
Pugua, also known as betelnut, is a palm fruit enjoyed by many Pacific islanders, who chew the inside part of the nut, mixed with a touch of lime and wrapped in a pepper leaf known in the Marianas as pupulu. This song describes a young man's search for these three ingredients.
Special thanks to Anders Bergstrom for his inspired slide playing.

Lyrics
Who Got Da Pugua?
By Ben Scales and Ezra Johnson
Sittin' under a coconut tree
Feelin' fine as I can be
Stuck my hand inside my pouch
Lanya! Pugua done run out.
{Chorus}
Who got da pugua, bra?
Who got da lime?
Who got pupulu, bra?
Now let's have a good time.
Let's have a good time.
Walked on down the beach aways
Went to see my good friend, Ray
He was having a barbecue
Somewhere here I'll find a chew
{Repeat Chorus}
I walked up and said to Ray,
"Hey there, Prim, what do you say?"
He said, "All I gots dis nut."
I said, "Bro, you got a lot."
Now we need just two more friends.
Then we'll have the perfect blend
{Second Chorus}
Cuz we got da pugua, bra.
Now, Who got da lime?
Who got pupulu?
Now, let's have a good time.
Let's have a good time.
My uncle sat down next to me
His mouth was red as it could be
He said, "Boys, you want some lime?"
This day's turnin' out just fine.
{Third Chorus}
Now, we got da pugua, bra.
We got da lime.
Who got pupulu?
Now, let's have a good time.
Let's have a good time.
Might be fate, might be luck
Three sistahs in a pickup truck
They all smile and wave at me
Dey got plenty pupulu leaf.
Now that all our friends are here,
Let's sit back and have a beer, cuz
{Fourth Chorus}
Ray got da pugua, bra.
Uncle got da lime.
Sistah's got pupulu?
Now, let's have a good time.
Let's have a good time.
Cuz We got da pugua, bra
etc...
