    Story Behind the Song
What happened to Sid and Red, two heavy metal thrashers that stumbled onto a tape with a recorded story that would lead them to change their band name...and subsequently their lives...

    Lyrics
This is our ode to Rowan

    This is his song

We wrote it down one winter night

    Please don’t take it wrong

It all started one spring day

    From "Bewitched" he took

The title of our band he’d say

    Should be: "The Big Book"

    I’m Sid and I’m Red

    And we’ll rock this town

    Until we drop dead

We played East and we played West

We played with your girlfriend, she said we were the best

    Back in ’89

    Traveling on the Greyhound line

    Sid wanted some sauerkraut

The bus stopped, we got out

    We went into "Kings"

Looked around at all those things

And then we found a tape

And then we found "The Tape"

    (Rowan speaking)

"Oh what a great name for a band! "The Big Book."

    (Chorus)

    The Big Book

    The Big Book

What a great name for a band

    The Big Book

    The Big Book

    (Rowan speaking)

Rowan: "Haven’t you ever seen that episode of "Bewitched" where somebody…um somebody had some disease or something…some ailment…"

We took the tape to our producer

He said, "With this name you will go far."

Our style and attitude got looser

    Now we’re grossly overrated stars

    (Rowan and Tom speaking)

Rowan: "So Samantha went to see Doctor um…Doctor Bom—Doc—"

    Tom: "Dr Bombay?"

Rowan: "Doctor Bom—mmm No I think it’s Doctor--

    Tom: "Bombay?"

Rowan: "No…it’s…it might not be…No it’s…No it’s not Dr. Bombay. This old like, this old like, you know, witch apothecary and he said, okay, anyway so he said, he said, well and he’s really old and he lives in this dusty little dungeon and he says like "We’ll have to look that one up in The BIG Book!""

Will they take away our Grammy?

After all those records that we sold

Is this the reason of our lust for sex and drugs?

Or just because we like Bob Mould?

    I’m Sid and I’m Red

And we owe our name to the words you said

    Unlike "Carry Nation"

We wouldn’t have left you waiting at the station

Sid: Yeah man! You can drive our van anytime, it’s immune to curves!

Red: We would’ve bought you a new amp too, that’s the least we could’ve done!

Sid: We want to hear some more stories! Maybe even one about "Get Smart." Don Adams is my favorite!

Up to now we’ve never named

The man whose name that we claimed

Last night I had a dream

    Of a cashier wearing green

    We went into Kings

Looked around at all those things

He was comin’, we were goin’

I saw the nametag—it said "Rowan"

And now we know his name

And now we know his name

    (Chorus)

    The Big Book

    The Big Book

What a great name for a band

    The Big Book

    The Big Book

    (Rowan speaking)

Rowan: "Anyway, that’s the Big Book."
