    Story Behind the Song
My children have always been a source of inspiration to me. They are the reason I waited to start my career full time. So when my first one was ready to fly I needed to let them know how much they meant to me, how proud I was of their own beauty, and how frightened I was of the big bad world for them. Music is how my heart eases its ache. Actually I could not sing this song for them after I wrote it, not in person. It made me cry. It took me a year, in fact, to sing it live without crying. So in order to give my children the gift I had written I had to record it so I recorded it onto a tape player and let them listen. My daughter just graduated this last year and even now if I let the music in too deep I cannot sing it without tears. The children of my body and heart are the most wonderful creations I have ever or will ever make. I could not be prouder of them.

    Lyrics
V1: Come child, come take my hand and walk with me through life's hot, dusty sands. I'll point you toward the ocean's roar and we will sit in silence on the shore. We'll hold life close and smile into the sun and let the moonlight wash us as day's done. We'll hold life close and smile into the sun and let the moonlight wash us as day's done.

CH1: But soon I must let you go away, you've grown so tall and fair. I must let you soar aloft with stars upon your hair. Just remember this my love I'm always waiting here. Just call out if you need my love, call and I'll be here. For you will ever be my child.

V2: I've seen you grow in mind, and soul, and heart. I've heard your dreams and watched you stand apart. Climb on now, climb on into life. It's ard to let you go amid such strife. I want to wrap my arms around and hold you very near and in this way remove my every fear. I want to wrap my arms around and hold you very near and in this way remove my every fear.

CH2: But soon I must let you go away, yet I don't understand. Weren't you yesterday a babe just learning' how to stand. Just remember this my love I'm always standing near and if you're ever afraid my love just call and I'll be here for you will ever be my child.

V3: Come child, now rise and go. I'll hold you yet a little moment more. I'll help you if and when I can but time is drawing nigh you'll leave my hand. My heart with pride will break to see you soar then tremble when you fall and rise once more. For I must recall the truth that burns and burns, it's only through life's bitter pain you learn. Yes, I must recall the truth that burns and burns, it's only through life's bitter pain you learn. CH1:

CH1: But soon I must let you go away, you've grown so tall and fair. I must let you soar aloft with stars upon your hair. Just remember this my love I'm always waiting here. Just call out if you need my love, call and I'll be here. For you will ever be my child. Yes, you will ever be my child. Yes you will ever be...my child.
