Lyrics
On San Jacinto’s bloody field,
Our drum and trumpets loudly pelaed,
And bade a haughty tyrant yield
To Texas Chivalry.
Our cheiftain boldly led the van,
His sword grasped firmly in his hand,
And bade us tell the Mexicans
To think of Labordia
‘Twas evening, and the orient sun
Into his bed was moving on,
When our young heroes rushed upon
The might of Mexico
Santa Anna travelled far to see
What man could do who dare be free,
In spite of Spanish musketry
Or Mexican artillery.
The boldest sons of Mexico
Have learned to fear a freeman’s blow,
And dread the shout of “Alamo!”
For Sons of Liberty.
‘Twas cheering to a Texian eye,
To see Sant’ Anna’a legions fly.
From Texas’ dreadful battle cry
Of death or victory!
The carnage ceased, in triumph then
Proudly shone the Texian star,
And vengeance on her conquering car
Reposed most quietly.
