Story Behind the Song
Vocalist Hisayo Foster asked the composer Katsuyuki Itakura to write a song for her. Usually his style is free jazz, but at her request he composed a lullaby.
Recorded November, 2000 at Systems Two in Brooklyn, New York. Mixed and mastered May-June, 2001 at Green Door Studio in Tokyo, Japan.
Lyrics
Our time-killers are love and brushing teeth
Zig zag zig. A crown of thorns for you my love.
Through the trees I see women walking on their hands barefoot.
I can't hear their hearts beat,
I only feel the fluttering of the air
Made by their breasts bouncing up and down.
Renoir's bather rolls up
Into my sight.
In the forest I lie down and dream.
Gauguin's girls ride up the wave
Into my sight.
