	Dead mans corner's extensive catalogue seems to be littered with unrequited love songs - this one is a real gem of folk noir which almost explains this eternal teenage tragedy from the other side of the coin, which makes it sadder still

	Story Behind the Song This is the only Dawes song which will make it onto this page until I can get his permission for more, but since I wrote the tune I thought I would go ahead and put it on and risk terrible consequences! In my experience, lots of people hear this song and have no idea what its about - I saw the words and knew straight away- in fact it was a privelige for me to then get the chance to write a tune for it (the easiest part!) Whats it about? Its about raging teenage hormones and being "just good friends" Lyrics And everytime Poppy sweet Poppy breaks down Her tears burn away at my shoulder When every affair just gives her despair And not what the poets have sold her Well for every tear Ive a dozen for her With no way that I can reveal it For I'd lose a friend at the romance's end So I'll Just do my best to conceal it Although me and Poppy sweet Poppy are close A couple we're not and we wont be For if it were so we would break up I know And she'd surely soon learn to hate me But feelings arent chosen they come as they please Despite all your pains to supress them and though I'll pretend that I'm just a good friend I stilll really want to confess them
