Story Behind the Song
The Brotherood Dogs is about inner city kids having to deal with so much more pressure than just being kids. The writer tries to direct them towards the "light" (Run, run with the brotherhood dogs, run towards the sun....)as she sings with compassion and and inner understanding of an emotionally tough childhood.
Lyrics
The Brotherhood Dogs
So then there were the brotherhood dogs.
Back to back watching, looking tough doing stuff you wouldn’t think kids would do.
Don’t you know that guns are their law? don’t look at me sideways, don’t there’s no telling what I could do.
Run; run with the brotherhood dogs, run towards the sun with the brotherhood dogs.
Go fast and cover your backs.
Baby cries, sun rises. Momma’s out hunting, the city’s a jungle, it’s hell out there you know.
No surprise, their wanting, go sown momma, beat the clock with no time to go.
Cry wolf and you die.
Heavenly suburbia, the nerve of you, out of sight out of mind.
You’re getting bits and pieces, a murder here a murder there, it’s got to happen, thank God it’s not me this time.
